Year 11 Revision Evening
This year our Year 11 Mock Examinations start on Friday 2nd March and continue through until Friday 16th March. The final GCSE examinations start in the week beginning Monday 14th May 2018 which is only 10 teaching weeks away including the mock exam period.
There is a simple rule in education that the more revision a pupil does, the better their results are. We have done some work with Year 11 pupils before Christmas to emphasise this and to stress the need for using effective approaches to revision so that every minute counts.
We realise that this can be a difficult time for parents too. The understanding of what leads to successful revision has moved on in leaps and bounds over recent years, to say nothing of the way that technology can be used.
On Thursday 15 February 2018 at 7:00pm – 8:00pm, we will host a session in the Main School Hall specifically for parents of Year 11 pupils. Feedback from previous years has shown that parents have found it to be very useful. I will cover aspects ranging from how to motivate reluctant pupils to how to help your child become more focused in their approach to revision. This may sound somewhat stuffy but it really is a useful hour! One of the most common questions I am asked by parents of Year 11’s is “what can I do to help”. Well, the short answer is – quite a lot, even if you don’t have a good knowledge of the subjects that your son/daughter studies.
It would be wonderful to see you there. If you are able to attend, please contact the school on 0115 9652495 to leave a message and we will reserve you a place.
This session is really run with you, the parents, in mind. Whilst you may wish to bring your son/daughter along, they will get this information through assemblies and lessons in any case.
