Mobile phones – September 2018

Dear Parents/Carers

At Colonel Frank Seely Academy we are constantly looking at ways to further support the learning and focus of our students and thus ensure all students achieve their very best.

Under our current policy, mobile phone use is permitted at break and lunchtime for the students. However, it is clear that this is affecting their focus during lessons as phone use on the way to and in lessons is increasing. Currently, if a student is caught using their phone it is confiscated and returned at 3.15pm via the school office. If the phone is confiscated more than once then parents/carers are required to collect it. This has, as you can imagine caused conflict at times and has, on occasion, disrupted learning.

Therefore, from Wednesday 5 September 2018 mobile phone use will not be allowed in the Academy, this includes listening to music. Head/earphones will also not be permitted, along with any portable music devices. If a student chooses to bring in a mobile phone, it must be switched off and be in their bag. If a student is found to be using their phone at any point during the school day, it will be confiscated and the student will be placed in a social time detention. The phone will then be returned to the student at the end of the day.  Parents/carers will still be required to collect phones from the school office if they are confiscated more than once.

If you urgently need to contact your son/daughter, please contact the school office and we will get a message to them.

Finally, just a reminder about the changes to the school uniform policy from Wednesday 5 September 2018. All students are required to wear the new branded trousers or branded skirts. A copy of the new uniform policy is available on the school website. All students have received vouchers from our two preferred suppliers and also the Academy, but if they have been misplaced please do not hesitate to contact us at the Academy.

Thank you for your support in these matters.

Yours sincerely
