KS4 Options Process - Parent Letter

KS4 Options Process

As I’m sure you are aware, students in Year 9 have the opportunity to choose which options to study in Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11). Students need to think carefully about the subjects they will choose and, as such, we follow an extensive programme to support them in their decision-making as outlined below.

All students will study the following subjects: English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, and Science for GCSE and will have core lessons in Religious Studies and PE.

Please find below some important dates for your diary with regard to the Options Process at Colonel Frank Seely Academy.

Options Subject Videos Release - Week Beginning 6th January 2025

Each week in the spring term, we will release a video of each Options subject, explaining what your child can expect to study in that subject for GCSE and the opportunities this will bring for your child and their future career plans. The videos will be shown during tutor time, and you can access them on our YouTube channel. A link will be sent out via social media and on Class Charts. This will allow you to discuss the subjects with your child in the lead up to the Options Evening.

Year 9 Assembly - Monday 24th March 2025

All students in Year 9 will attend an assembly during tutor time when they will receive information which details all the courses on offer.

Year 9 Options Evening - Thursday 27th March 2025

Our Options Evening provides an opportunity to talk to staff from Options Subjects about the courses on offer at Key Stage 4 and attendees will receive an Options Booklet.

Options Choice Form - 31st March 2025

Students will be given a link to an electronic form, which will register their first and second option choice in each column. These forms need to be completed by Monday 21st April 2025. Option Choices will be confirmed after the May Half Term break.

Final Confirmation - Friday 6th June 2025

Students will be informed of their choices and will not be permitted to change after this date.
